Zzzz... - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
I am a fan of the HP books. But I must say that they weren't meant to be put into film. The acting was pretty bad, but hey, it's quite understandable, isn't it? I mean, they're only kids! But compared to actors like Haley Joel Osment, they truly stink! The movie seemed to have a new scene after another, which makes it really boring. Chris Columbus did a truly awful job in directing this movie. I've watched his other films like Home Alone and Stepmom, and this is the far worst! Basically, the movie was quite loyal to the book, though they did cut out some of my favourite scenes, so overall, I give it 3 stars.
Great movie for kids! - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
I really like the feel to the third movie better. It is much more mature and it really is a better movie. But still this is a solid movie mostly for kids and teens. The third is definitly better for more audiences, it even appeals to adults, J.K. Rowling is definitly talented and so are the people in these movies.
P.S- but not really the actors.
A pretty good movie - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
It's not the best movie I ever saw, but it was fair. The story, obviously taken from the book, missed a few parts, but if you saw the movie instead of the book you probavly wouldn't notice, as most of them were small, trivial scenes. The only thing that really kept the movie from getting the A+ it was quite good for was the acting. They tried too hard, and what were supposed to be dramatic pauses in speech sounded a bit weird. I knew how the movie was going to end, because I read the book, but I was still worried if it was going to end differently, like with all movies I watch. It's a weird thing. Anyway, moving on, the visual effects were pretty good, and the way Voldemort was shown was done well. And lets not forget the sentimental value; no true Harry Potter fan can call themselves a Harry Potter fan without seeing this movie. I suggest renting it for a week and seeing how you like it, and, if it's the best movie you've ever seen, buy it on video.

Great - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
I really liked this movie, because it was nearly a match to the book. They missed Peeves, which i thought would have made a better movie with. I'll discuss the book ahead, but mostly I'll discuss the beginning, so there are no real spoilers up ahead.
When the movie begins, it shows Dumbledore, Professor McGonnogal, and Hagrid bringing 1-year-old Harry to his aunt and uncle's house. Soon it shows that Harry Potter lives a horrible life with his aunt and uncle because his parents died in a "car crash". But Harry makes many weird things happen, one of them talking to a snake. Soon, a mystery person writes a letter to him, but his aunt and uncle don't let him read it. The mystery person keeps writing until on a Sunday a lot of letters for Harry come through the fireplace. So Harry's uncle takes them to a small broken down house on a rock in the middle of the sea. During the night while Harry and the Dursleys are sleeping, a wild, loud knock on the door wakes them up. It turns out that a giant called Hagrid is knocking at the door. Hagrid explains that he is the keeper of keys and grounds at Hogwarts. When Harry says that he doesn't know what Hogwarts is, Hagrid gets very angry at the Dursleys. He explains that Harry is a wizard, and that his parents were very good wizards but were murdered.
So Harry follows agrid to Diagon Alley, and get money from a bank run by goblins. Soon they get Harry's supplies and an owl. When Harry goes to get his wand, Mr. Olivander gets Harry to try many wands. Mr. Olivander finally picks out a wand, and Harry gets a sudden warmth through his body. Mr. Olivander mutters curious many times, until Harry is wise enough to ask what is so curious. Mr. Olivander says that you-know-who had had harry's new wand's brother. So harry consults Hagrid about his new "find". So Hagrid explains that his parents were murdered by voldemort, the most feared dark wizard. But voldemort had somehow been destroyed by Harry when he was one year old.
Hagrid gives him a ticket for platform 9 3/4, and takes Harry off to the train. But then he has to leave him there. Harry has no idea were the train he has to take to Hogwarts is, so he hears some person saying muggle. Of course, a muggle would know nothing about what a muggle is, so Harry follows the witch and then asks how to get onto the platform. She says he has to go through a brick wall, but it works. On the train Harry makes friends with a fellow 1st-year Ron Weasley. On Halloween, Harry makes friends with a very smart muggle-born girl called Hermione Granger. By the end of the year, Harry overcomes many challenges.
Great family film with heart and excitement! - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
"Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone" is a fantastic film for all of the fans that read the books! Young Harry Potter is an infant when his parents get murdered by an evil wizard called Lord Voldemort, and is left with nothing but a scar in the shape of a lightning bolt on his forehead. Right after that tragic incident, he is sent to his cruel aunt and uncle's house for over eleven years until he gets a letter in the mail from a magic school called Hogwarts, where he learns how to perform magic spells, fly a broom, and much more! He also makes friends (like Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger) and enemies (like Draco Malfoy and his cronies.) Daniel Radcliffe is so good in the role of Harry Potter that he makes other child actors that were in different movies look like dirt! Also starring the outstandig following actors: Robbie Coltrane, Richard Harris, Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, Ian Hart, Warwick Davis and many others! A film for all ages and a sheer delight for fans of the popular book who will just be in heaven after seeing it!

Pure magic! - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
This movie is probably better than Harry Potter&The Goblet of Fire. The first instalment from J.K.Rowling's famed book sees Harry's first year in Hogwarts. He makes friends with Hagrid,Ron Weasley,Hermione Granger and learns that there is a hidden world of magic.
The visuals were fantastic and the best thing about this movie is its plot(of course since it was written by Rowling). The plot was perfect, almost everything in this movie was perfect, full of suspense, funny but admirable scenes and characters that fits the plot.
Reading the book was fantastic but seeing it happen in tv was way cool. This is probably one of the best kids movie ever made.....wait a second, its not only for kids but suitable for everyone to watch.
As a loyal Harry Potter fan,I am looking forward for a better Harry Potter movie than this.
The beginning of the series - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
Before I saw this I was just excited that the Harry Potter series was finally coming out in theaters. The story is great. I love the Harry Potter books and enjoyed this movie as well as the others. Daniel Radcliffe was a pretty good pick and so were the other characters. It's good to see them grow in acting skills as they progress through the series. The first-time actors do a great job, especially Radcliffe in the lead role. The direction is pretty good. The visuals were good. I liked how they did Voldemort. Overall, a great start to the series. Sure some parts could have been better, but overall, a good movie.
Good movie - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
I'm not a big fan of "Harry Potter" but this is a pretty good movie.I've seen this movie lots of times and I also enjoyed it.Everything about it is pretty good. The acting, the directing, the special effects and esspecially the story were all really good.
Kids will love this movie and so will fans of the books even though I havn't read all of them. It's such an interesting tory. The cast is brilliant. They are so talented.Chris Columbus, the director, is very talented as well.It is because of him that "Harry Potter" has come to life so well. The action in this film is great too.The vissual effects are also really good.
The story to this film is extraordinary, legendary and will probably be a classic. This is one of the biggest kids books of all time and now it's amovie. This mythical tale is abut a young orphan named Harry Potter.Harry lived with his wretched aunt and uncle, the Drusleys along with there nasty son Dudley.Harry soon finds out that he is a wizard, so was his parents, and he than set of to Hogwarts School of Witch Craft and Wizardrey. While he is there he meets a young boy named Ron Wesley and a young girl named Hermoine Granger. He makes rivals with Draco Malfoiy and he discovers that his parents died trying to protect Harry from the most evil wizard of all, Lord Voldermolt. That night of the deathes of Mr. and Mrs. Potter, Harry, being only one yearold stop Voldermolt from killing him usng magic.Harry's powersb were so strong that Voldermolt culd only leave a tiny scar on Harry's forhead. This all means that Harry is legendary in the wizard world.Latley, in the school, Harry, Ron and Hermoine find themselves stuck in a mystery involving Professor Snape, one of the teachers at the school, a stone which contains imortality and secrets which lead to Harry's past.On his amazing journey he encounters dragons, three headed dogs, a troll, a unicorn and a human chessboard!Harry also meets quite a few friends while he is there like Haggrid the Ground's keeper, professor Quaral who's a teacher and Professor Albus Dumbledore who is the head master of Hogwarts and a master wizard. This is quite a year for Harry.
A wizard has a total of seven years at Hogwarts so we will see soon what new adventures are instore for Harry next.

D - for dumb humor - Wedding Crashers Reviews
I am simply let down everytime I get talked into going to an american made comedy. Who's rating these comedy movies... post pubescent boys and girls? I guess if you think bare breasted women, stupid cliches' and just plain dumb writing is funny... more power to you. I'll stick to the foreign comedies, until Hollywood can produce something more funny than this type of garbage.

Movie magic! - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
This movie was not rated an A+ because the whole start of it was just really meeting the cast for the first time. The 2nd movie was better because they didn't have to introduce many new people. So I rated this movie an A-.
Great portrayal of a children's novel - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
Great Portrayal of the story and charecters. The characters come to life exactly as JK imagined. Personifies many aspects of social life and incorporates it well with the Fantasy Escape that makes the stories come to life. There will not be another Harry quite like Daniel Radcliffe.
Spectacular and impressive, a masterpiece... - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
Potter! Potter! Potter! Yes, the first sequel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I found the movie enjoyable and of course full of magic. From the book to the movies, a great transition. Chris Colombus was able to bring the story to life and it was really realistic. With the help of J.K. Rowling, what could have gone wrong?!

A good adaptation, but not great - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
Harry Potter was highly anticipated and it's definetly not a dissapointment but it's rather dull and doesn't fully capture the novels magic. I think this problem is Christopher Columbus who directs this film. He tries to make it family friendly so he includes many silly jokes that make you sigh because of their stupidity. Daniel Radcliffe doesn't exactly shine with glory in his acting capabilities. He looks much like Potter but when he is supposed to look moved or surprised he simply looks forced and shows little emotion. Overall Harry Potter will delight your children but don't buy it, it's dreadfully boring second time around. Although Quiddich never gets boring, the game is full of spirit and action, very well done. A shame the CGI could have been polished over but didn't.
A fine movie - just like the book - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
The book that I read in later 1999 had a lot more details than the movie, but the movie is more colorful, and I can see the book in motion. My favorite part of the first Harry Potter movie is when Harry goes to Hogwarts and explores the castle. I also see the classrooms, and Harry and his friends heads down to the trapdoor and make their way to Lord Voldemort, which just Harry came over. The first movie is fun to watch, but it can get a little long near the end. I recommend seeing it.
Harry potter review by me! - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
Harry Potter is one of the greatest, most loved book-made-to-film.I think it is a well made film with an awsome cast.If you javen't seen it yet you should!

Harry potter rules the screen!!!!!!! - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
It was the bestest movie of ALL TIME!! YAY! Harry and his friends are on a quest to stop Voldemort from getting to the Sorcerer's Stone. It is crazy cool and an excellent choice for everyone!! Everybody go see it and write a review!! :-)
Disappointing - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
Overall, I enjoyed this movie. The anticipation of one of today's most popular novels coming to life was overwhelming. The directors did a very accurate job of delivering Rowling's story in the same manner of her rich writing style. It was when I noticed how poorly the special effects were designed that I began to lose faith in the movie. The environmental sets were fairly realistic, but everything else was pretty much bush league. The acting could improve, but hey, these are still early actors with a lot of potential. This movie is worthy of praise but not worship.
I expected better... - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
This film's adaptation of J.K. Rowling's book was quite horrible. They had to cut out so many scenes just to shorten the movie, which's still quite long mind you. Acting was bad and the direction was even worse. Chris Columbus must've been sleeping while the movie was being made. A new scene appeared after another, seemingly without any connection at all. This made the show highly boring for me. The visuals were neither too bad nor too great though, so my final statement is: Don't watch this movie, but if you do, please take along your pillows and blankets!

Speechless!!! - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
I bought this movie for my daughter because she wanted to see it and with all the hype that was going on about it, I thought I need to watch it before I let her see it. I was instantly amazed it how wonderful the story line was! I don't think I have ever seen a movie or read a book that is better than the Harry Potter series. I have seen this movie over 100 times and that is no joke and my daughther thought it was ok (LOL). I know this movie word for word and I still watch the series on average once a week.
Disappointing. - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
Now I, having read the Harry Potter books but not being an avid reader of them, walked into The Sorcerer's Stone not expecting too much; just some disposable entertainment. Unfortunetely, that's basically what I got.
Yes, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is an imaginative little tale about the boy who survived the Dark Lord's wrath starting his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but overall, it just doesn't add up. It's uneven, and actually seems almost too loyal to the book. The child actors playing Harry, Hermione, and Ron (Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint) actually look like their acting most of the time, not embodying their characters. But then again, their characters are hollow to the core, Harry's the only one with the slightest amount of emotional insight, but there's only one scene where Radcliffe plays the emotive part well.
However, Harry Potter isn't awful. It is humorous and witty in some spots, and adult actors such as Richard Harris, Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, and many other British character actors add some spice and taste to this generally bland, overlong film.
Another bonus is that the imaginavtive scope of Harry Potter is large. The visual effects are masterful, making Hogwarts seem as magical as can be.
Definetely not "The Wizard of Oz of its time", as Richard Roeper said, but worth a look for the final act and the uniqueness that went into the story.
Harry rules!!!!!!!!!! - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
This movie was the best movie I have every seen! It's really exciting when you read the book and watch the movie!! I can't wait to watch the other HARRY POTTER movies!!!!

Magic is alive once again! - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
Im going to go out on a limb here, but this trilogy is the 2nd coming of Star Wars. (PLZ DONT SHOOT!) Im serious, these movies did for fantasy\magic movies what Star Wars did for Sci-Fi and what Indiana Jones did for action\adventure.
I must admit there have been few movies that have really gotten me onboard with the idea of magic. I guess it's the kid in me that loves this movie. Though I think these movies are perfectly suitable for adults and nothing like the mindless garbage disney puts out sometimes.
This is a very thoughtful, magical, wonderous world created through GOOD DIALOGUE(imagine that), superb casting, excellent special effects, constant action and mystery. It is always refreshing to see a classic good triumphs over evil story. I must admit Ive never read the books so I didnt know what to expect, but it turned out to be better than I ever imagined.
Awesome - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
wow, this movie blew the life out of me, it was very adventuorous, and wow, the actors rocked, it was pure fun, its great for the whole family i say, you should defineltly see it if you havent

Great books to great movies - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
What a great, interesting, heartpounding movie this was. It was (I think) scary, funny, action packed, and sad. Overall, just about perfect.
???????????!!!!!! - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
What kind of movie was this! Did they just skip parts from the book? The books are alot better than the movie ( no offense for those of you who liked it!) The reason is that the books show more details and descrpitions. Take this advice from me !
Boy who lived - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
This movie, based on the book by J.K. Rowling, is about an 11 year old boy wizard, trying to find himself in a new world of fame, wizards, and culture. Harry Potter, a newly turned 11 year old boy finds out he's a wizard, and is introduced into a place that he never though or new existed. As I sat down to watch the first Harry Potter book in the series of what will be seven, eventually, looking around to see a packed movie theatre, two weeks after this movie opened! This was highly anticipated, and I was very pleased with it. The actors looked like the pictures that were in my mind, and they did an incredible job. The producers and director etc, made a huge gamble on using new actors to do the roles of almost all of the child and teen characters who are in this movie, and probably the rest of the series. And, did an incredible job! They also used actors who are known to most, such as Richard Harris (Dumbledore), Dame Maggie Smith (McGonnagall), Alan Rickman (Snape), Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid)and many others. This was filled with great effects, including the many quidditch scenes, which blew my mind. I loved the second movie as well, and am looking forward to the third. This movie/book series, is incredible, especially with the movies, not in the fact that you can see it, because J.K. Rowling did such a great job in writing the first 5 of the Harry Potters. But, they are letting these kids age, seperating the movie a year apart, which is great, they will be able to look the part even more, over all, i give this movie an A. -Liz aka Firthafied282

Better than average - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
Quite honestly i was so excited for a Harry Potter movie, when i saw it i loved it. Now that ive watched it about 100 times, i see that it was an all right movie. The child acting in this movie is very good and had me convinced that this world was real, but the writers did not stay as true to the book. I know that it is over 300 pages long but cmon! They cut out many of the good parts in this story and personally, i liked the book alot better than the film.
The wonderful world of witchcraft & wizardry - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
Based on the outstanding novel written by J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was an incredible film with superb acting and absolutely amazing visual appeal. The director, Chris Columbus, did a brilliant job bringing the Harry Potter world to life. The immense amount of work put into this movie shines through when you first see it on the big screen, pulling you into the story like you are just another Hogwarts student, waiting for more adventures full of magic, bravery, and friendship.
Absolutely wonderful movie! - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone is definitely a great movie. I LOVE the books & i'm so happy that this movie is a great adaptation! The story is perfect, nothing to say about that & So are the visuals. The acting is outstanding too...except for a few little flaws from Daniel Radcliffe, but that really doesn't make the movie any less fun! This movie is good for young & old, it will carry you on a magical journey & show you this wonderful world. Don't let the length of the movie scare you, cuz there's not one single boring moment in the movie. an A+ movie, no doubt about it!
First "potter" book makes good transition to film - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
This is how a book adaptation is done! The world of Harry Potter, so wonderfully created by J.K. Rowling, has been amazingly transformed from page to screen. This film really captured the creativity of the novel and didn't try to re-invent the story. Made up of a perfect cast including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, the characters were performed to perfection. Director Chris Columbus did a wonderful job in creating the first of the hopefully seven films to come. He really created a sense of magic around the film from costumes to music and cinematography to special effects. There is a true sense of storybook magic that is so evident by the color of each shot at Hogwarts and each look on the faces of the actors.
John Williams should be praised again for his wonderful score that stands equal to his plethora of film music. The camera shots were beautiful and the special effects only enhanced the magical world of Harry Potter.
From the very beginning this film captured the wonderful atmosphere so present in the book. It was wonderfully transfered to film and will remain a classic for many years to come. Let's hope that every film to follow will be as good if not better than this one!
Well done Warner Bros. and Chris Columbus on a great film.
A film worth seeing! - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone a film directed by:Chris Columbus and produced by David Heyman and Mark Radcliffe. The film is full of adventure, fantasy and is great for the whole family. The film is set in a magical word which didn't seem to exist in the first place. The main characters in the film are:Harry Potter,Ron Weasley,Hermione Granger,Albus Dumbledore and Rubeus Hagrid.
Harry Potter lived the past eleven years of his life with his Uncle and Aunt who made him believe that his an ordinary,muggle-born boy,who has no magical powers. On his birthday Hagrid a gigantic man gives a letter to Harry from Hogwarts schoolf of Witchcraft and Wizadry telling him that he should attend the school at the first of September. Then Harry starts to know about the magical world and has to bestfriends Ron and Hermione but then he has to stop Voldemort the Dark wizard who killed his parents from getting powerful again by stealing the Sorcerer's stone(also known as the Philospher's stone).
The roles of Harry,Ron,Hermione,Profeser Dumbledore and Rubeus Hagrid are played by Daniel Radicliffe,Rupert Grint,Emma Watson,Richard Harris and Robbie Coltrane. All actors were excellent espacially Richard Harris, the movie was fantastic and enjoyable indeed. The sound effects were very good and exciting the film was almost perfect. The scene in the film that I was affected by is when Harry discovers that his part of the magical world and that he'll be way from the Dursley's.
This is a great film definetly worth-seeinng and I personally recommend it to anyone cause if you didn't see then you've just missed hafe your life.
The teen critic - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Reviews
I read all 4 books to prepare myself for this movie a week before it came out. I was afraid they were going to destroy J.K. Rowling's beautiful work but surpsingly they adapted the best they could without telling the story bluntly. The trio looks exactly how I would picture them (except Ron should have been more taller and with freckles and Malfoy should have had white hair. Well that's what I imagined). The only flaw I saw was that they left a big scene before they meet Voldermont. It is after the chess scene. Hermione and Harry are in a room filled with potions and she must pick the correct vile of potion so that Harry can go through this fire to get the Sorcer's stone. That is why she gains House Points. And for all those teenage girls looking for a cute guy to drool over look no further than teenagers Sean Biggerstaff and Tom Felton. I loved this movie and would not mind watching it over and over again.
